Partner Visa
Are you in a relationship with an Australian Citizen, Permanent Resident or eligible New Zealander?
You can apply for a partner visa if you marry, plan to marry or you are in a relationship with an Australian Citizen, Permanent resident or an eligible New Zealand citizen for at least 12 months before the application is lodged. As with every visa you will need sufficient evidence and prove a genuine relationship exists.
Main criteria:
- Over the age of 18.
- There is a commitment to a shared life
- Living arrangements
- Financial aspects
- Social aspects – what friends might say about the relationship.
Prospective Marriage Visa
This option is for couples who are engaged
This  visa can also be considered if applicants cannot satisfy the partner visa requirement.
Main criteria:
- The is a temporary visa valid for 9 months during this time you need to marry your partner (Australian citizen, permanent resident or an eligible New Zealand citizen).
- Your partner will act as the applicant sponsor.
- The applicant will need to prove there are no impediments to marrying the intended partner/spouse.
- Australia’s health and character requirements need to be met.
- Full work rights are granted for the duration of the Prospective Marriage Visa.
- Once you are married, you will be eligible to apply for permanent residence through a partner/spouse visa, if all conditions are met.
