Global Talent Visa (GTI)
What is the Global Talent visa?
The future of Australia will be defined by its ability to attract the best and the brightest minds in the world to move to Australia and create innovative jobs here.
To fulfil this vision Australia has announced a special class of permanent visas called the Global Talent Visas for highly skilled professionals in a number of target sectors.
These target sectors are updated from time to time as the GTI program is refined.
The ten target sectors for GTI as of January 2021 are as follows:
- Resources;
- Agri-food and AgTech;
- Energy;
- Health industries;
- Defence, advanced manufacturing and space;
- Circular economy;
- Digitech;
- Infrastructure and tourism;
- Financial services and FinTech;
- Education.
Advantages of the GTI Visa?
This is a unique visa from all other skilled work visas as:
- This visa is not points tested.
- There are no English language requirements or skills assessment requirements.
- There is also no age limit for applicants. However, if an applicant is aged below 18 or above 55, an exceptional benefit to the Australian community needs to be established.
- Priority processing over all other visas so their processing times are also quite short.
- The visa is granted without being the subject to any employment conditions. This means individuals are free to move roles and/or employers.
- Because the visa is not tied to an employer, there is no training levy which can be a saving of AU$3,000 or AU$5,000 depending on the size of the employer.
- If granted a visa through Global Talent Visa program, no exemption to enter Australia is required from the Australian Border Force as individuals are granted Australian permanent residence and are free to travel
- Being a permanent resident provides a pathway to Australian citizenship in the future.
