Electrician Assessment

The Electrician skills assessment is a mandatory requirement. All electricians working in Australia need to be licensed before undertaking electrical work. On completion of the skills assessment, you gain your Offshore Technical Skills Record and skills assessment result.

Stage 1: Documentary Assessment & evidence

You will need to prove your demonstrated work experience. Evidence includes: qualification certificates, wage payslips, bank statements, tax documents, employer references and more.

  • If you hold trade related qualifications, you’ll be asked to prove you have a minimum of 4 years’ work experience.
  • If you don’t have trade related qualifications, you’ll be asked to prove you have a minimum of 6 years’ work experience.
  • You will also need to prove that you have worked as an Electrician for a minimum of 12 months in the last 36 months. If you are a self-employed Electrician, you may be asked to have a video call with an assessor.

Stage 2: Technical Interview and Practical Assessment

Once the documentary assessment is completed and passed., you will be advised to organise your 1-day Technical Interview and Practical Assessment. The practical assessments take place in the UK every month.

The Practical Assessment involves completing a series of tasks that demonstrates your skills as an Electrician. These practical tasks are completed in the presence of a licensed Assessor.

  • Wiring of a switchboard with circuit breakers, two way switching and power outlets – and testing to see if the board works.
  • Motor control circuit, draw a circuit and wire a motor that runs when pressing the start button the contractor energises and turns on a three-phase motor.
  • The applicant must demonstrate a competent safe disconnect and reconnect procedure as part of this assessment.
  • Test board, simulating a domestic installation with a few faults you need to find.

On successful completion, you will receive your OTSR (Offshore Technical Skills Record) and Skills Assessment letter as an Electrician.
